World Polio Day

Dothan Rotary

In October, the Dothan Rotary Club observed World Polio Day through several events coordinated by our local Chairman and board member, Charles Buntin. He led our program on October 25 and invited Dothan Rotarians Tom West, Judge Mike Conaway and Rick Rikard to share their thoughts on polio that ranged from their personal experiences of what it was like during the time polio was a common occurrence in the United States to having a family member who had the disease and survived.

Also, Dothan Rotary Club was able to sell 420 boxes of Dunkin Donut Purple Pinkie Donuts! With matching funds included, this means $78,750 goes to polio elimination. A large portion of the donuts were donated and distributed to various service professionals such as fire stations, police stations, sheriff’s department, hospitals, nursing homes, utility workers and others to show our appreciate for their service to our community.

The Mayor of Dothan, Mark Saliba, signed a proclamation citing October 24th, 2021, as world Polio Day in Dothan AL. The proclamation was presented to Charles Buntin, Polio Chairman, Sheila Azar, Club President, and Bruce McNeal, District 6880 Governor.
